Traditions

Vampires have many traditions dating back to their time in exile. None are necessary to survival, but are commonly associated with vampires anyway.

  • Although they are able to, most vampires will not drink off animals except in extreme situations. Many find it distasteful, and others find it an insult to the Nameless One, who created them to hunt the other races. Some vampires have been known to even starve to death trapped in caves with animals all around them.
  • Many vampires surround themselves with the trappings of death, including sleeping in coffins. While in exile, it was never a sure thing that you would wake up before someone used you as food, and as a dark joke, many set up their havens as tombs. Older vampires do it in remembrance of those who did die in those dark days, while younger ones more often do it as a sort of fashion statement.
  • Many vampires with the resources will also support a herd of people to feed off. Usually about five is effective, although the average is closer to seven. Some even collect different races to suit their hunger on any given day.
  • Most vampires have runes on them in some sort of way, most of the time on their clothes or jewelry. Many of other races assume it has some sort of mystical significance, but that is only a tiny bit of the more mundane truth. For the most part, they are a type of identification, chronicling the lineage of the vampire, and the vampire’s identity. One clan of vampires has taken this to an extreme of sorts, creating a whole language from the runes, and tattooing their deeds on their own bodies.
