Merfolk are humans with a half-fish form. Most merfolk can change between legs and a tail at will and are about as tall as a human when on land. Their tails, eyes, and hair tend to come in colors of blues and greens, and they are usually light-skinned.

Most mers live underwater in large clans, some to the point of being antisocial and xenophobic. Some clans associate with the land, some don't. A decent number of mers, especially the most recent generation after the Age of Darkness, have abandoned clan and water to make some quick money in the cities. They're the fourth most populous species, along with angels.

They are excellent bards and artisans as well as gifted mages, and a good number are sailors. They are also in high demand as interpreters for Khori~nath relations, as mers tend to have a reasonably good relationship with local pods out of necessity.
