Humans are by far the most populous species of Shadow Star. They are the most varied of the races, turning their hands to most any occupation or allegiance. Unlike our modern Earth, ethnicity is a non-issue; while there is a wide range of physical features, common traits are not concentrated in any particular area due to a wanderlust-like tendency for humans to migrate. They are also one of the most promiscuous species on Shadow Star: many modern-day species have some measure of human blood, and half-humans are very common.

Humans are unusual in that they are not mentioned in the creation myth at all, despite their lack of rarity. A few ancient druids hold that humans were not created by the gods, but instead came to Calacia from somewhere else, but where that "somewhere else" is isn't really known, so most people dismiss the idea as absurd.
