Demons

  • Realm: Chaos
  • Lifespan: 3000 years

The elite and royalty of the Chaos realm. Their intelligence is only matched by their arrogance, and they are quite long-lived, up to 3,000 years of age. Their trueform is that of a dragon-winged faun with either small, straight horns (more typical in females) or curved, ram-like horns (for males). Being shapeshifters, however, they can take any form they wish, and many often keep a humanesque form to mask their trueform's features.

Physically, their limitations are above that of humans and most mortal species, and control over Chaosian energy to them is innate. Many become bloodmages as well. Their limitations? Any druid can destroy them with relative ease- a demon's natural magic is no match against divine magic. No matter what form they take, they can be identified by their red pupils and gold irises, a magical mark of their loyalty to the Nameless One. Beating a demon in a fight is a challenge, but it can be done with skill and planning.

Demons rank at the top of the political ladder of Chaos, even over the less numerous vampires, and fill a vast majority of the upper-level positions in any hierarchy. However, for individuals and clans, power is tenuous and constantly changing among the various families. Clan wars are quite common, and in some cases, the pride and honor of one's clan is more important than life. As a superior race, they place high value on keeping the demon bloodlines pure, and half-demons (usually the result of a male demon and a Unitarian slave), or "halfies", are considered even lower than Unitarians.

Most are completely loyal to the Nameless One (wouldn't you be if you were at the top of the ladder?). A demon defecting is almost unheard of, and with good reason: Withdrawals from Chaos are the most brutal for a demon, a minimum of two weeks of fevered nightmares and a high likelihood of scarring. Assuming they survive, they will most assuredly be chased to the ends of Calacia by Justices for their dishonor. Aside from scarring, defected demons lack the red pupils of their Chaosian counterparts, but most retain dull-gold eyes. A few have eyes of other colors upon defecting, possibly the result of impure blood far up the family tree. A demon's gold eyes, like a Chaosian elemental's, can be passed onto its children, which can result in Unitarians with gold or red eyes.
